Sunrise Part 2 ..
Up at 4am … at Trailhead for ‘Landscape Arch’ at approx 5:15.. Trail to arch is 1.5 miles roundtrip.. A little weird walking through canyons when no one is around .. very .. very quiet. Only activity on trail was us walking and several bunnies ‘hopping’ on the trail. In that temps were in low 60’s .. it was very comfortable. Sun made it’s timely appearance at 5:56 .. different kind of canyon rock at ‘Landscape’ .. instead of red rock .. rock was mostly brown .. so when sun hit it .. colors would turn yellow/orange. Arch has the largest span of all Arches in the Park approx 300 ft. As we approached it .. we didn’t think it was that big .. but .. once we stood underneath it .. we were wrong .. it’s big ! All photos of arches required no post processing .. Polarizing filter helping add color to sky.
After taking numerous photos of Landscape Arch .. we walked around other trails and found ‘Pine Tree Arch’ .. in that the canyons are made up of several different layers of rock .. this one ‘glowed’ more red than some of the others. Next was ‘Tunnel Arch’ .. By 8am .. we were ready to head back to parking lot .. stopped at a few more scenic areas on the way out .. then on to breakfast at our ‘new’ favorite breakfast place in Moab .. ‘Jailhouse’ .. again .. we were not disappointed with either food or service.
Back to camper .. reorganized .. showered and ready to roll again .. this time we headed to ‘Deadhorse State Park’ .. approx 45 min Moab (??) .. Our 2nd visit to this park (2011) .. $10 to get in .. walked around rim .. very steep drop-offs along rim … low stone ‘rail’ makes it a little spooky peering over the sides. In that we’re tired from this mornings early wake up .. we did not take any trails (other than rim trail) .. Checked out visitor Center .. had strawberry smoothie(s) at their snack shack .. then back to camper .. Turned on AC in Casita (hi 80 temps outside) .. layed down to do some reading .. before we knew it .. we had a 2 hour nap ! Nice .. we needed it .. we’re starting to get a little weary from all our day excursions …but .. with Grand Tetons then Yellowstone .. there will not be too much down time. We’ll rest when we get home .. !
Tomorrow (Monday) is our last day in Moab .. may take a drive to Canyonlands State Park.. We may also reconfigure our route home to include Custer State Park in SD .. Navigator currently working on rerouting us !
