Day 13 Moab

4am wakeup call this morning !  Sunrise at the Arches today… The best time to go to Arches … only a few cars in park .. hiked a 1.6 mile trail to Landscape Arch .. one of the more popular and photographed Arches. Amazing when sun rises and hits the red rock … like turning on a switch .. rocks go from dark to bright.

Saw a few bunnies and some deer as we were walking on trail .. It’s extremely peaceful to be walking at that time of day ..  very quiet .. beautiful surroundings .. only sounds are your footsteps…  We need to find more trails for sunrise walks.

Moab is a very busy place this week. The Rally on the Rocks event is happening. Laundry room gossip says there are almost 3,ooo 4 wheel UTVs in town. We walked the campground and 49 of them are here now plus some empty trailers. They go out onto nearby trails in organized groups of 25 with “trail bosses” leading the way. Every day their group goes on a different trail. The main event takes place at the fairgrounds just down the street. The UTVs that are not street legal are escorted through town to their trailheads. The street legal ones will meet at the trailheads. They are everywhere and they are loud.

Clip of ‘non street legal‘ UTV’s (mostly RZR’s).. being escorted into town .. street is right in front of Casita.

Tomorrow we head off to next campsite … ‘Horse Thief Campground’ .. approx 30 min from our current site .. Dry camping at next site .. will update blog when we can …
