Early pre-post for today .. Goulding Lodge Internet is too good to pass on
We covered a lot of ground yesterday ... checked into campsite and headed out. Think we need a down day today .. perhaps just visit at sunset .. last nite’s sunset was mostly covered by clouds .. Either we are extremely tired or campground was pretty quiet.. either way .. we slept till almost 8am .. the latest we’ve ever slept on this entire trip. Hope showers are decent … we need to shower and regroup.
Thought I’d add some of yesterday’s photos .. then add some after we checkout the sunset tonite.. As I mentioned yesterday .. campground internet is non existent .. but .. there is a connection in their lodge .. I tried to log on to it last nite with no success .. this morning I noticed I was connected .. So .. I just loaded a few photos from last nite .. did not resize them as I normally do …
Navajo singer performing at visitor center
Terri with John Wayne .. John Wayne made 5 movies in Monument Valley .. museum onsite has alot of memorabilia of his movies .. every nite they show a different one of this movies .. Story goes that Phillip Goulding came to Monument Valley in the 20’s .. traded with Navajo .. when land came up for sale .. he purchased a substantial plot of Monument Valley.. In the 30’s Depression .. he went to Hollywood because he had heard they were looking for Western locations .. somehow he met film director John Ford .. Ford loved the location .. the rest is history !
One of the numerous shuttle vehicles you can hire with Navajo guide .. at a cost of $80 per person .. we decided to drive the loop ourselves..
If we are able to capture some sunset photos tonight .. will add them to this post …
Afternoon Post .. Took a ride to mile marker 13 on Rt 163 .. not too far from campsite.. Iconic Forrest Gump photo..
