Aug 14 Promiseland State Park

Last day on our camping trip .. we leave tomorrow (Sat) morning ..

Tried staying up late last nite to do some stargazing .. but .. way too tired to make it past 10pm ..  Setup Brinno time lapse camera .. looks like we did catch a few shooting meteors/stars .. Will do some video editing when we get home … Looks like another clear night tonight .. so .. I’ll set up Brinno again ..

Another nice sunny day .. we’ve been very lucky with weather on this trip .. Hit the lakes this morning on our kayaks .. checked eagles nest .. no activity .. did see some osprey’s in the sky .. interesting to watch them circle around then drop almost straight down when they see fish .. they dive straight into water making a big splash .. also saw some herons …  Came back to campsite .. took our showers then headed out for dinner at a local restaurant .. place didn’t open till 5pm .. so we went to play some mini golf next door .. nice course .. very challenging and tricky .. all holes par 2 or 3 …  did manage 2 hole in 1’s .. last one being on 18th hole .. so we won a pass for a free game .. Weird coincidence in that lady that operates the course was pruning some flowers as we approached the 18th hole .. I asked her if she had any tips for us .. she did .. she said ‘aim for second bush’ on the right next to hole .. easier said then done I told her .. but … we did it .. hole-in-one !

On the way back from dinner we stopped at wildlife observation shack to check on any activity  .. no eagles in nest but we could hear an eagle(s) making some noise way on the other side of the lake .. we’ve seen eagles enough times to recognize their sounds .. sure enough TG spotted one with her binoculars on the far side of lake sitting on a branch .. tried to use spotting scope on him .. but .. could not get a sharp photo … Headed back to campsite .. driving in to the State Park entrance .. we just missed seeing a black bear cross the road in front of his .. only caught a glimpse of his/her butt .. and a big butt it was … ! Could not get the photo .. bear was on the move !

 

All in all an interesting day !!!

Promiseland State Park Aug 13

Late night last nite .. stayed up to watch meteor shower/shooting stars .. didn’t go to bed till 4:30 in the morning .. but .. it was worth it .. we’ve never seen so many stars .. it was a clear night with no moon … so stars really popped in the sky .. and ALOT of stars .. We saw over 30 meteorites/shooting stars .. thats more then we’ve seen in our entire life… Seemed as if every few minutes we would find one in the sky .. No luck  trying to take a photo …  the event happens so quickly you would have to be very lucky to take photo at exact time of the event .. Was able to capture some time lapse video of the sky ..  .. but .. need to edit the 4 minute clip ..  We’ll stay up again tonite .. but .. we’ll go to bed much earlier for sure !

 

Busy day today .. on lake kayaking for a few hours .. nice sunny day .. no eagle sightings .. but .. we did locate their empty nest .. we’ll try again tomorrow .. More of the same planned for tomorrow .. kayaking and maybe some hiking ..

Aug 12 Promiseland State Park

Thought we’d make a last minute camping trip to Promiseland State Park … approx hour from our house .. one of our favorite/convenient places to camp.

Only camping for 3 nights …  Left home around 1:30 .. arrived approx 2:30 .. A little issue during our trip .. we noticed that there was an odd ‘feel’ to the truck while we were towing .. couldn’t put our finger on it .. but .. something was different .. We pulled into a truck/gas station on our way .. couldn’t find anything unusual .. so we continued on to campsite .. Backed into our site .. and were almost completely done when skies opened up .. what started as a few sprinkles turned into a steady rain .. fortunately .. we packed our rain jackets ! For whatever reason .. we could not get electrical power to Casita .. we decided to figure it out after it stopped raining .. Just a passing shower .. reconnected our Casita cable for electrical power .. no good .. reset campground pedestal power circuit breakers .. no good .. after several attempts .. power restored !

Now that we were all setup at campsite .. we started to look into what was causing our towing issue .. looking at towbar .. we noticed that hitch ball and it’s nut were abit too loose .. tightened it up with a few wrenches .. quick fix for now .. we’ll check into it when we get home …

A little chilly at campsite .. made some packing mistakes .. I did NOT pack any long sleeve shirts or sweatshirts … temps dropping into low 50’s tonite … plus we want go out tonite to checkout stars and Perseids Meteor shower scheduled for tonite … I think we’ll be using Casita furnace for some heat tonite !

We loaded up our kayaks .. so .. we’re hoping to launch them a few times in the next few days !  Hopefully we’ll have some clear skies tonite so we can watch the stars and maybe get some photos ..
